The game is being developed by Player First Games.
New characters are planned to be added to the game as post-launch content. Characters can be unlocked through gameplay or purchased using Character Tokens included with the "Founder's Pack" content packages, with a rotating selection of characters available for all players to use. These skins are also accompanied by their own voice actors. Some characters also have variants, or skins, based on other characters, such as Uncle Shagworthy and Cake being skins of Shaggy and Jake, respectively. Every character also has a "Horizontal", "Vertical", or "Hybrid" categorization describing "which direction their moves are best suited for covering." These characters come in five classes: Assassin, Bruiser, Mage / Ranged, Support, and Tank. Discovery-owned franchises (with many of them being voiced by actors reprising their roles from previous media), and one original character.
The game currently features a roster 19 playable characters 18 coming from ten Warner Bros. There are also rumors that Ted Lasso, Beetlejuice, Eleven from Stranger Things, The Powerpuff Girls, Samurai Jack, and the Duck Dodgers version of Daffy Duck could be added too, though these are less conclusive according to datamines.Playable roster of MultiVersus during early access Brute seems to be a placeholder similar to the original Ninja fighter, and references Hulk several times, meaning Disney’s Incredible Hulk may be included, too.
Speculation points to this being a backup in case licensing for Naruto may have fallen through, but we will need to wait on confirmation to know for sure.Īdditionally, Wreck-It Ralph or Fix-It Felix from Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph movie series were found in the datamine, along with another original fighter named Brute.
In addition to these datamined characters, files for several other fighters exist in the code with assets that cause a bit of confusion.Īccording to multiple pieces of data, Naruto could be appearing in the game based on file names and some visuals, but placeholder data for an original ninja character was also included in the game’s codes.
Over the last several months a slew of datamines from the files pulled from various tests or previous builds that were obtained by leakers has given us a better look at what the game’s final roster will look like, or at least several characters that could join the likes of Superman and Bugs Bunny at some point in the future. And outside of that, all we know is what is included in the available test builds of the game-until you take into account the data pulled from within them.
MultiVersus is a free-to-play title that puts an emphasis on teamwork and a two-on-two format, with full cross-play, cross-progression, and rollback netcode set to be included at launch. And, even with a live test featuring plenty of information available, we also don’t have a full starting roster or details about how characters will be added to the game post-launch. The game is still scheduled to release in 2022 on PC, PlayStation 4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, though no specific release window has been given. Games and Player First Games will use to build out a roster for the platform fighter.
With the release of the MultiVersus closed alpha, the announcement of an open beta in July, and the eventual release of the game later this year, fans are still hungry for more information about just which combinations Warner Bros.
